    Hi,

New member here so please go easy on me! I have recently purchased a 57 plate Passat Sport 170 TDI Estate with factory fit parking sensors. Firstly the car is fantastic (traded up from a 54 plate TDCI Mondeo) and what a difference, the Passat is vastly superior.

The one issue I have found is intermitant problems with the front parking sensors. Occasionally the front parking sensors produce a constant tone (is if you are close to an object however there is nothing there, when this happens (generally when reversing) the rear parking sensors do not work at all. VW have checked this once and not found an issue, but I was curious if any other forum members have encountered this issue before taking the car in again.

    Kind regards,

    Richard

There is certainly a known issue with the sensors 'staying on' after heavy rainfall, it clears up when they dry off, This happens on my passat estate occasionally.
This doesn't of course explain the complete non workers.

    Hi,

My 55 plate saloon had real problems with the sensors after rain going from not working to constant tones when there was nothing there. Eventually VW admitted that the sensors were corroding and a formal fix had been announced. This was done and I still had trouble so they were replaced again along with the beeper that was frazzled as well!

These cars are built for life.....BUT not the for the UK!

Had the 2 middle front sensors replaced under warranty due to the acknowledged corrosion issue. I still get water related issues after longish distances in conditions of heavy spray (front only) and after the car has stood in persistent light rain for at least overnight (front & very occasionally rear). I don't leave them to dry as this is not quick when humidity is high or temperature low. I just blow in them sharply unless I have access to compressed air. This clears the issue at once. Its quite surprising how much moisture can emerge.

As laceywarmington says, this is definitely a known issue, so your dealer is either ignorant, or telling you porkies.

    Have a look here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm?md=759&

under 'What to watch out for', eleventh para. The list of other problems is daunting, but most have now been rectified, so don't be too alarmed!

Excellent - many thanks everyone for your replies.

The water issue seems very likely as it was raining yesterday when they did not work and today it has been sunny and they are working fine again.

I will let you know how I get on with VW.

As I mentioned on early thread, I had same problem with my sensors on my 07 mod passat wagon. VW dealer changed mine under warranty , both fronts and rears..
I had to wait for about 2 months for new parts ( living in Norway) but I have been told that these new parts are improved ones...

Sensors were changed in the end of february 2008 and I didnt have any problem with them since...
