    Hi all,

    I am running a Bora 130 TDI, custom remapped to 170bhp.

    Its an 05 model with another 2 months left on warranty, the engine itself was completely replaced 4 months ago by VW so should have another 8 months warranty (Assuming they dont find the remap).

    Anyway the question i have is;

    Is it worth taking out an extended warranty? I did see on that cost about £220 a year but covered pretty much everything including most wear and tear items (Not brakes pads of discs), but did include clutch and gearbox.

    Im not sure how these extended warranty companies work, or what there opinioons are on remaps, but i beleive they take the car away for a few hours for a proper evaluation before confirming a premium cost.
    Anyone got any recommendations on this?

    Regards

    Speed12

    I got a quote from VW of £750 for 15k miles then £500 per 10k miles after that, a bit steep but I do a lot of driving so it would bail me outif anything did go wrong, if your getting it for approx £250 i'd be taking the guys hand off for that price.

    warranties aren't worth the paper their written on. If it's wear and tear which they'll try and argue say your clutch for example they won't pay up. there the next biggest thieves along with insurance companies.

    So far, my VW garage has been really good, even replacing brake discs due to "warping" (my driving) so I think that i will be taking the extended warrenty out on my Bora.

    All i'd say is check the policy over before buying it. there's a lot of scam companies out there. warranties direct from the main dealer may be the best option.

    Yeah might be worth considering.

    Trouble is i have had a remap (Nothing heavy) it was 144bhp as standard and now its 169hp, but i dont think warranty companies would look on it kindly.

    Reason im asking is that my warranty runs out this august, the engine was brand new this Feb so should be good for another 9 months (Assuming they dont find the remap).

    I do about 15K per year in the car and am worried about things going wrong, remap might not have been the best idea for relaibility, but i drive it carefully, service it every 10-12K and so far im saving a bit of fuel.

    I've been lookin into extended warranties! And you find that some of them come with "wear and tear" now! Both "Warranty direct" and "click4warranty" do.

    I'm going to go with warranty direct because the repair can be done at the main dealer! I haggled with them and got there top cover for 13 months for my A6 (should have been £680 and got it for £480 on DD interest free over 13months)

    I've got 14 days to have a really good look at the policy and then decide.
