I've got the engine management light on on my dash board. I have done a diagnostic test to find out what the faults were. Here are the faults.

P0444 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open.

    P0038 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I have changed the o2 sensor and reseted the engine management light but it still comes back on and says the same thing

    "P0038 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Anyone know what the problem is?

    My car is a VW GOLF 1.6 16v 2002

    Here are the codes?

    P0038 - Heater control Circuit High ( Bank 1 Sensor 2)

P0444 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open.

    P0038 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

    P0170 - Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1)

Does anyone know what any of them means?

    Thanks

What is the engine code AZD, BAD or BCB?

You have faults there with both lambda sensor heaters, S1 = sensor 1 (pre cat), S2 = sensor 2 (post cat) and that explains the fuel trim issue. Both S1 and S2 are on the same circuit as the EVAP valve so I suspect you have fault in the circuit which has blown fuse 43 on the fuse board on the side of the facia.

Hi, Thanks for your help. The engine Code is AZD, I have changed sensor 1. I have checked all the fuse, all of them seem to look fine.

Is sensor 1 the one in front of the cat or is it the one before it.

    Thanks

Check there is power to and from the fuse with a test light or multimeter, do not depend on a visual check, three of your fault codes point to a power failure on that circuit. As for which sensor is which, read my previous post again or do you not understand pre and post?

Before you start doing anything real it would be neat to see a full diagnostic protocol which has control module part number as well as software version...
