hi everyone, im worried that my temperature gauge (above the speedo) is very slow to get to the middle, sometimes it can take 15 minutes! im actually wondering is this the cause of my poor mpg figures, despite being very light footed!what do you think, do i have a major problem or is it the norm for these cars? thanks for your help in advance.

I have a 2.0 se estate, with AZM engine
Timed it from start-up this morning, it took 4 minutes driving before it reached the operating temp of about 85degrees. It runs at that temperature from then onwards.
I'm only a diy bod but it looks like either the thermostat has stuck open, or if you don't know the car history it may have been removed completely.
The engine water temp is also fed to the ecu, so if water is circulating through the radiator all the time it will feed fuel in at the cold engine rate until all the water in the system has heated , not just the block. To be sure talk to someone that does it for a job.
As for fuel consumption, mine only did 32mpg or at best 34mpg (true, not computer indication) on a steady long run. Hence conversion to lpg.
