Currently my alarm goes off as soon as I lock the doors so I have checked the boot and bonnet contacts, all look fine and I have checked the CCM under the pass side carpet and that is bone dry (never seen any water in its life).

BUT....... if I drive the car and then lock it the alarm WILL NOT sound until around a hour after I've locked it then it goes off every time I try to lock.

Could this be the battery on the car losing power or poss the battery that's in the alarm horn itself ( at least I think there's one in there)??

I've also checked all the interior light go off when when it locked en'all.

    Passat 2001 Sport Saloon.

Check if the siren itself is not scuba diving in the pleneum chamber (front bulk head) it could be that it has filled with water but not yet leaked into car

Or your loom is damp under the carpet and its not yet filled the footwell with water. If you press the locking button on the fob twice, it will turn off the alarm.

I had a similar problem with my VW Passat. The car alarm would go off at anytime like 2-3 hours after the car was centrally locked. I used to go out in the night frustrated that this is waking up neighbours, but find that i had not left anything open.

Then I started locking the steering wheel and strangely the alarm does not go off anymore.

my alarm was chirping (this in turn set off the alarm properly), apparently to tell me the sirens batteries were low . i soldered new 1's in to find it still chirped . Since this i discovered my main battery to be boiled dry inside and knackered , i changed this and now the alarm neither chirps nor false alarms. mine did sound upon locking the doors also . changing my battery may be total coincidence but id recommend taking the earth off the battery for a minute and reconnect this might just solve your problems.

    mines a 2001 model also .

Get a fault code read carried out on the convenience system and get the garage doing this to look in Measuring Blocks 08 for the last trigger source.

I had similar on my 2003 dealer found corroded connections in driver footwell. Assume in the place you put your left foot when driving, as the thing has never stayed fully closed since.
    Might be worth a look

    Just an update guys.........

Had the battery and charging system checked and all's well so...

I've checked and sprayed with WD40 every conection I can find that might be linked to the alarm and I've also disconected the battery for 10 mins and then cleaned the terminals before refitting.

So far all's well and this was over a week ago, fingers crossed I've done something it likes.

I tried the double click while I was experiencing this problem without success. Also tried double operating the door lock manually which should have had the same effect - again no joy. Annoying - for the neighbours too.

    Had another thought.

I have an estate, but possible I suppose on a sallon.

Could go afew hours without alarm, then alarm. Noticed on a drive, up and over the moors, suddenly showed up "that hatch was open" It wasn't BUT I eventually found that the hatch door switch was faulty. Intermittent, So sometimes set off the alarm, some times, sometime later, maybe the wind blew, just moved the hatch enough.
Still faulty, (I have cleaned the unit a bit) but to extent that, I need to check if interor, boot light comes on, if on alarm will not sound, if not on, alarm will go off. Some of the lock switches are replaceable, some are replaceable ONLY by changing the lock unit, Unfortunately I need to change the lot. Well not yet anyway, going to strip it out again, and a good spray with a solvent, Nothing to loose, If it works fine, if not, Lock unit anyway.
