I have a 1993 Audi 90 CS. I am having some electrical problems in my car and am trying to fix the issue thus far I have not found the problem. I keep blowing fuse # 12 & # 14. # 12 Fuse controls my Combination instrument, backup lights, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, cooling fan control unit auto check system, airbag warning light. The airbag warning light came on when this started but, I don't think is the problem I think the computer for the airbag got a surge and just needs to be reset again. # 14 fuse which controls: License plate light, engine & glove compartment lights. What could be making these two fuses to blow all the time 14 blows as soon as I put the car from park to a drive or reverse gear on the shifter. 12 will blow almost as soon as you start the car up. any help would be great guys

If the layout is similar to Audi 80
a probable cause could be the wiring loom in the
boot lid. The inner cables get broken from frequent
up and down movement. The cables can then short out
It may be possible to establish if this is a fault by disconnecting
a multiplug on the wiring loom close to left hand rear lamp

hey thanks for replying to my post. Are you talking about the wire that is on runs on the left hand side of the trunk near the hindges can break because of the opening and closing over the years? I heard about this once but, never thought that could be the problem I am having. So the wires are coming in contact with each other and causing these fuses to blow? Is it an easy fix? The wires look to be enclosed in a hard plastic tube would I slice it down the middle and look for where the break is and splice the break and repair? I mean I do see where the wire on the trunk is bent pretty good right where the hindge is. Let me know if this is what you are talking about.

Yes thats the one I mean. But before cutting into cable try disconnecting it at multiplug to see if your your fuses still blow
this will confirm or eliminate if problem exists in loom
It is possible to splice and repair but tedious

Ok I will try to unplug the multiplug and see if it still blows the fuses. If when unplugged and it still blows the fuses what else could it be? If you don't know does anyone else know? I would like to know all the possible causes so I can keep going at trying to find it and fix it so the more input on this issue the better people. Thanks micheal balbrig anyone else who has ideas on what the cause could be for these fuses to be blowing. I am new to these forums but, really glad they are out there and us Audi owners band together trying to help each other out with these type of issues. God Bless and I await any replies.
