    Hello all,

I have just bought a 2003 Golf TDi Match. I noticed no sound comes out of the rear door speakers (2 on each door). Are there no speakers inside or do you think there's something wrong.

I know it's not an import.

    Thanks
    Regards

It's so mean from VW not to include them, given that the Golf is overpriced anyway compared to rivals.

I still love it though . This wouldn't have changed my mind, but still annoying...

Is there any work required, apart from putting speakers in, to get sound in the back? What speakers do you recommend? and where is a good place to get this professionally done (VW?). Door cards need to me removed and refitted, so I don't know if I can trust anyone apart from VW to do this properly.

    Thanks guys

Yeah l know what you mean, the front 2 speaker are okay in terms of sound but it would be nice to have the back one as well, your best bet is to take your car to a local VW garage. i shouldnt see it costing more £100-£150 to put them in. Am taking my to the local guys today, l will find out and let you know. cheers

Great! Yes please let me know. I will take mine during the weekend.
£100 is a good price if it includes the 4 speakers and fitting.

    Thank you

    Hi,

I visited VW yesterday and they said they'd do it for £490!!!! They said there is no wiring and it's a long hard job blah blah blah...

Has anyone done this before and how much does it cost?

    Thanks

WHAAAAT - 490! that is madness , and sound like dealership inflation has gone to thier heads..
even the most complicated door cards shouldnt take an hour to take apart and put back together, find the size of speaker and wattage you'd like in sumwhere like halfords then go online and find them better priced , id imagine a little adaprter block might be needed ( yet again ask halfords etc, autoleads do a good few im sure) then its just feeding wires ( if theres not already existing, wich allot of the time there is even if there isnt speakers though they usually wont give much power)
please at least give it a go before partin with with half a grand

Just depends on the model you choose, some model have more than others, its just vw like to make the range difficult to understand what you get.

Not that im complaining I got a GTi with climate and sunroof and more or less all the toys, but I agree it seems unfair when you can get a focus lx for less with more.
But the focus will lose more money quicker than the golf, you do pay for the brand, and the vw is seen as a more upmarket car and shows in its price

I think the std speakers are wicked ^_^

    Just my 2cents

well i was changin ma filters today , decided id maybe also make a start to removing/ sanding valances and handles.. sadly there was a couple of screws that just didnt want to give, so i gave up.
Did however give my a chance to pick up on my rear door speakers- 17cm components i think aswell as the tweeters just next 2 the handle- seemed a bit one sided so i removed my door card and seems 1 sides been blown, price vw are wanting think i shall just upgrade
    - while in the boot i also seen what seems to be the speaker connection at the back of the light cluster, hoping could be an easier way to wire 6x9s and the likes.
if anyones after a pic of the door card removed and the speaker positioning let m know and ill give it a go.
