    Bit Of A Newbie Question Was Told Its Cambelt And Others Have Said Its Chain But Service Book Indicates Cambelt Changed At 90k Now Done 114k

    If It Is Belt How Often Do They Have To Be Changed And Aprox Cost

    P.s Its A 1997 2.6 Se A4 Avant
    Thats cambelt driven engine, if the milleage is genuine, i would not worry as the belts are supposed to be replaced every 50K or 5 years wichever cames first. However, the way the car has been used nees to be taken into account. I live in New Southgate, N. London, if you want i could have a look for you. The main dealer charges £600+ for a cambelt job, i do them for half the price and i fit new cambelt kit, watter pump, rollers, tensioners and drive belts. The parts alone are about 200 quid on trade. In the event of cambelt failling, the cost of the engine overhaul is more than the value of the car, so you do the maths. Hope this helps, regards, Chris-07789912128.
