Spluttering and Pinging

I wounder if any of you can help, when I drive me car it jearks a lot esspecially comming out of a corner it looses all power then jerks like a bat outta hell and goes again and after its done that it start to ping and when I floor it the pinging stops, and on the highway there is no real power at high revs, and pings like crazy.

hello cameron,i had this on a passat 2l and it was the catalytic convertor that was falling apart internally so the bits would block exhaust flow and choke the engine and upon releasing the throttle the car would drive fine for a few miles again then choke and perform.as you dont describe you model etc the basics are:faulty fuel pump(mechanical/electric)as pinging is fuel starvation(lean mixture)blocked filter/rotor/distributor cap/ht leads/dirty fuel or incorrect grade filled/fueltank pickup&breather pipe.there's also dirty or worn fuel injectors(crappy S.A unleaded and diesel) leaking fuel lines and rubber mounts on carb engines.what about your distributor timing/slipped cambelt or dodgy repair.loss of power around corners suggests fuel starvation so i assume you have a carburetor engine with a worn or leaking float or sticking valve&seat?.
