Semi-automatic climate control/heating question.

I have the semi-automatic, ie the system where there's a knob for temp, one for fan speed and one for distrbution.

My question is this: does that system sense the temperature in the car and adjust output to suit? If so, presumably pre-chilling the incoming air by using the AC just makes it turn up the heat to achieve the set cabin temp? How does the system sense the temperature? Where are the sensors?

I've noticed that if you sit in the car with ignition on but engine not running you can hear servos inside the dash constantly adjusting something - would this be in response to the inside of the car cooling down or warming up?

Correct , not sure where the sensors are though

Air conditioner with manual controls has no sensors which control the temperature,this is done manually with the temp control switch

Semi-auto(Climatic written under middle dial) does set the temp based of a sensor.

I thought so. Any idea where is the sensor? Is it like a room stat in a house?
