I hope I'm posting in the right place

I have a 2000 Polo 3dr and for the last month or so the central locking just whiiiiiirrrrrrssssss at me from the boot for about 30 secs and then dies off without locking/unlocking anything. The keys work fine and the alarm also works but no central locking. The strange thing is it sometimes (rarely) works but 99% of the time it doesn't.

Around the same time (don't think it was exactly the same time) both the driver's and passenger's windows also stopped working, but the passenger window started again and has worked OK since but the driver's doesn't. You can hear it some clicking when you press the button but nothing. You can open the passenger's window using the drivers switch.

    Any help very much appreciated,
    Thnx.

Thought i would update you with what ive found out today, firstly in my case the central locking issue turned out to be a broken paddle in the door lock mechanism, it costs like £5 max from VW and they were kind enough to put the new paddle on for me, so now the central locking works from drivers door, however its really weird because the passenger electric window keeps going down and up when i turn the key in the lock???? so must be some sort of wiring problem i suspect or earth problem?
The plot thickens though the electric window switches on the drivers door, neither work, and you cannot hear the motor working, on the passenger door the switch does work and the window does work?
These are the things that people have suggested: 1) new motor, 2) new regulator, 3) try the switch from drivers door in passenger door and vice versa, 4) fuse, 5) relay 6) earth problem in wiring loom
So tomorrow ill give them a go and update you all!!

Thanks for the update ppitstop - hope your tests go well. I'm going to have a look myself this weekend at the motors, fuses etc.. so I'll let you know what I find.
