    Morning All

Quick one for you. I have managed to aquire some tyres but they are 215/55/16 where as my current ones are 205/55/16. Will they be okay to use? IF not what problems can i expect?

I beg to differ...... as i understand it, 215/55/16 is......215mm(metric) wide or width of the tyre / 55 is the aspect ratio or the depth (distance of alloy wheel to road) and lastly 16 inches is the diameter of alloy wheel (imperial).

If anyone knows any more, or if i'm wrong ,correct me !

    Nearly right.
The "55"aspect ratio is a percentage I was told, hence 55 per cent of 215 is greater than 55 per cent of 205, so the side wall will be taller.
This explains the speedo inaccuracy as the circumference of the tyre will be greater.

Ok, i'm corrected, lol............. so to get the speedo back to read true, would Big G need a ratio of "50" or "60" ?

I think the correct size is 205 / 55 / 16 on this car. That is what my 2001 Sport wears....

Please correct me if I am wrong.

In answer to the OP, not a lot of difference in the real world. (Less than the wear from 7mm to 2mm of tread anyway!

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Follow the link below which should explain more.

    http://www.autopartuk.com/index.php?page=tyrecalculator

Once you have put in the original and new tyre size the bootom of the page displays the speedo error if there is any.
