Hope someone can help as I am going mad here!
I have an 2003 130TDI Passat saloon. When I switch on my headlights to the first setting (side lights) neither the front or rear lights on the driver side come on. The indicator, brake and fog light are however ok on the same side. The front dipped beam on the driver side is also ok as I think this is on a seperate circuit.
To cut a long story short went to change a bulb in the rear (driver side) and when the unit holding all the bulbs was out I think it made contact with the "lashing eyes", the chrome bits used to tie in luggage. Any way I think this may have shorted the circuit as I heard a spark but cant find the fault. I have checked the fuses near the driver dash and these are OK as are the bulbs. Is there anything obvious I am missing out?

There must be a fuse gone somewhere, try substituting the fuses with some new ones,it's not always possible to see if the fuse has gone or not.You can get a bag of different size fuses to suit all,not expensive, let us know if this sorts it out, cheers Calum

Used an amp-meter and sure enough the fuses were gone. With the naked eye they looked as good as new! Thanks for the advice.

There are also additional fuses above the foot pedals in relay/fuse holders, you have to remove the lower dash panel to get to them 3 or four torx screws and 2 clips at the top.
