    Hello everyone

I was wondering if anyone could help with a problem on my 2005 Golf GT 140PS Diesel.

Today, first of all, the engine symbol warning light lit on the dash followed by a warning "emissions garage". Then after stopping the car and going back 1/2 an hour later this warning has been joined by ESP off light and the switch on the centre console will not extinguish the off light and a steering wheel symbol (haven't got a handbook but I assume this is to do with the steering wheel airbag). Coincidence that all faults have appeared together so I assume something expensive and electronic is faulty. Any idea's.

    Regards

    Hi django,

The Engine light with emissions workshop usually points towards a sensor failure in and around the engine.
The ESP light being on is due to the car switching it off as there is a fault in the system which it can't guarantee will mean the ESP would work correctly. Bascially a "fail to safe" system. Coupling this with the steering wheel symbol would point me towards the slip ring/ steering control module being at fault. The steering module and slip ring are needed for the ESP to know which direction the driver wants to go so it can tell if the car is sliding.

Would definately be worth getting a Vag-Com scan done to see what fault codes are flung up.

    Where abouts are you?

Had the same two faults on my previous car and got quoted £2000 to fix the problem, something to do with the engine chain and the brakes related sensors.

If you're still within the warranty period then take it back to VW ASAP, or else if you're just out if the 3 year warranty then as long as you've been servicing your car @ a VW dealer on schedule then purchase the extended warranty from VW and then take your car for repairs. This way you'll end up paying less.

    I'm in Sunderland.

Since I posted this the ESP light has now extinguished and the console switch is working OK. Similarly the steering wheel symbol has also extinguished.
Only the "emissions/garage" warning remains. The car is just inside the warranty period so it goes to the dealers on Monday for sorting. Many thanks to those who replied.
