No turn signals and no flashers

I have a 2001 passat and my turn signals and flashers are inop. I suspect the relay behind the flasher selector is bad but I don't know how to get at it. I was able to remove the cover but now what?

Pop the cover back on and try and remove the whole assembly in one.

It may help if you prise out surrounding switch blanks (if you have any) as you can use the resulting hole to waggle the switch from below.

Keep at it, it's hard the first time.
