    Hi,

I am a newbe in the Audi World. (driven before several BMW's and Ford's).
    I have buy'd some months ago an old Audi A4 B5 (1995) with a AEB 1.8T engine.
Now I have serious problems with this car.
One of the problems is the climate control. It is going crazy.
After switching on the contact, the display blinks with an interval of +/- 2 seconds. It is possible to control it. But.... it only blows very hot air and only through the ventilation openings in the middle of the dashboard, not possible to control it. No air on the window and on your feet.

I hope so, cause this car drives me really mad. (Already had a defective airco compressor, a window that was broken down, central doorlock that stops, wastegate broken, a lot of rattling sounds are coming from the front wheels last month etc.)

    Thank you very much!

If your digital display is flashing intermittently that is caused by a dry solder joint behind the lcd panel, try searching this site for more info as it can be rectified by re soldering the joints (i did mine 5 years ago and still good). As to why its blowing hot air all the time is a mystery to me, even if the digital temp display is on low does it still blow hot. Try adjusting the temp and fan speen and see if you can make it blow cold air. Turn off the recycle button and try that. I did find with mine when the display was flashing it was impossible to adjust anything. Hope this helps, regards Rhencullen1989.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

It is blowing under all conditions hot air. I can set the temp. and fanspeed (fanspeed works fine), airco on/off, but I can't control the air outlet directions and the temperature. (On the display is shown the right settings, but he doesn't control the air outlet valves)

My display is blinking in a steady speed for +/- 2 minutes and after that it turns on completely.

I will remove the panel and resolder this joints first (if they have bad or cranked contacts) and look if everything is solved or not. I hope so :-D

The system has diagnostic capabilities so it makes sense to start with a fault code read.

    Hi there

I don't know for sure but I think you can get a fault code by pressing and holding recirc. and pressing air dist. up button. If it works display should show 1C if so press recirc. again to get fault codes. Try audiworld.com to get tech. bulletin of fault codes and details of how to do test.

good luck and remember if you are not the head armadillo you have to do the dishes!!!!! what does the bit about lead dogs mean or don't I want to know!?

If you are behind another dog you will be staring up its exhaust pipe, if you are in front, the view ahead is rather better.

    Hi,

I have opened the AC unit today, the solders on the display module are "resoldered" by an amateur. I have resoldered them (see pictures below) and checked them, but still the same error! I have tried to read it out with vagcom, but vagcom can't connect it, too many errors. (every other module in the car is possible to read with vagcom).

Does anyone have tips for me, what can be wrong? Or maybe a connection diagram of the AC unit. Maybe I can find out with these information what is wrong!

    p.s. the type number is: 8d0 820 043 D & 5hb 006 500-11 (HELLA)
