    Hi folks.

On saturday my 2.0 gl sharan wouldn't go into gear...well i couldn't move the selector from park or neutral with the engine running.

If i turned her off, no probs but running.

Normally when you put your foot on the brake you can her a solenoid/interlock releasing, but nothing when she was playing up.

i fiddled around by the pedals whilst i waited for the AA , just wiggling wires, and cleared the fault.

For reference purposes how does the intolock work and has anybody else has this ?

I have just had the same fault. When i applied the brake didn't hear the solenoid operate and was unable to move selector out of park. Turned engine off and could feel the selector lock release. Moved the selector through the ranges and back into park. Started engine again and still unable to release selector. Pumped the brake pedal a bit (felt a bit spongy) then strangely, even though i didn't feel the lock release as i usually do when i apply the brake i was able to select reverse.
After returning home i parked up, put selector in to park and turned the engine off. Thought i would restart and see if the fault had come back only to discover that i seemed to have a new problem. I was able to move the selector freely without applying brake, it would appear that there was interlock engaging. I also noticed, though not sure if relevant, that my tail/stop lights had gone as indicated on dash by fault lights, though as it is dark i haven't checked properly yet i suspect the fuse has blown.
Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas.

Having looked at the VW circuit diagrams it would appear that both my problems are related. I have either got a problem with my brake switch or with fuse 20 (10A). I should imagine that it is going to be the fuse.

i found a simple way to fix this now....the local garage replaced the switch that operates on the pedal for the interlock. £60 done....common fault apparently, and to be honest when you see the component you'll understand why
