    Please help, I have a dead 20ltr 8valve golf gti, The battery died and when the boot light stayed on overnight so I changed the battery, I found that the Ignition lights come on but the engine did not turn over.I hve changed the battery, starter motor, ht leads, distributor cap and finally the lock barrel. But still when the key was turned the ignition lights come on and the car didnt turn over. Please help this is winding me up

    Remove the red/black wired plug from the starter motor. Take a reasonably heavy gauge (around 4 to 6-mm core) piece of wire and connect it to the starter terminal with a crimp connector. Then connect the wire to the battery positive terminal and the engine should turn over so take care that the car is in neutral and your fingers are clear.
