How do I change headlight glass?

I have just bought a 99 TDI estate, and the headlight 'glass' is discoloured (yellow). I have washed it but still there, how do I remove this and clean maybe inside or replace?

You can't remove the lens, but many people have sanded it with 1000-1500 grade sandpaper and then polished up with a pad on a drill. You can get headlight restorer polish from many outlets online, and a google search should bring up lots of 'how tos'. It is usually the outside that needs cutting back as it gets sandblasted over the years to a dull micro-pitted surface.

I use an abrasive all purpose metal polish and a flap wheel to polish headlights, it works a treat.

You can bake the headlights to remove the lens, but it can be a fine line between melting the glue, and warping your enclosures.

It may be cheaper to source a clean 'used' pair for £20.
