    Hi all,

I put down a deposit for an 2000 W reg A4 last weekend. The trader had the log book but was waiting for the owner to send him the service history papers. He checked the service dates with Audi and they all came up fine.

I was due to collect the car this week/weekend after I'd put a £150 deposit down, total cost £2780 with 116K on the clock. This was all subject to inspection.

Before handing over to me he had to get the car valeted, inspected at a workshop for any problems, fix the airbag light and replace the two worn tyres. The deal would also include a 3 month warrenty.

However, before getting anything done to the car he wanted to receive full service history paper work from previous owner. He's been trying to get a hold of him all week and after some digging around he's managed to call up the last two places it was serviced and has managed to get some details...

    Here goes:

Between them the two garages have noted:

    • Lack of power
    • coolant system problems
    • oil in turbo (from drip tray)
    • oil in coolant pipes
    • excessive turbo lag
The trader is unwilling to move on price. How much will it cost to get this fixed? He seems to think it'll cost at least a £1k and therefore is not willing to get it fixed out of his own pocket. He received the car in part-ex.

Shall i get my deposit back and walk away?

I was so happy I was going get a new Audi after some kid wrote my old one off. I suddenly feel so depressed.

You were lucky, those faults may not even be present now, did you not test drive the car ?
He has no come back on whoever supplied the car to him. I am a motor trader, and its up to me to check out the vehicle prior to doing the deal if I want to.
He will end up putting it through the auction and getting less money, or keeping quiet and selling it to someone else.
Why didnt you buy it, then claim on the warranty ?

Yeah we test drove it but he drove. I couldn't tell anythin was wrong with it. He was being very thorough with it before he sold it to me, he noticed the fault with the turbo.

So in that respect no, I couldn't have done a warrenty claim as he knew it was fault and would've sold it to me as such.

My brother reckons he might have had a better offer from someone else (i've seen them adverstised for much more) which is probably why he made me wait a week before he sold it to me. Either way I'll never know i suppose.

Regarding his comeback, he works solely with a couple of law firms in London buying and selling their cars. He must have a good relationship with them. He said he's going to contact the guys boss and try to settle it that way.

The search goes on, I've put a wanted post on the forum.
