Been trawling through the forum for a couple of days now, atm I am thinking either the crank sensor or the electronic coil/distributer.

    Symptoms:

Missing under load up ~2200 rpm.

    Done:

    Plugs
    Oil & filter
    Air filter
    Fuel filter

Just picked this car up from a friend who is emigrating, been standing for few months. It's fine when cruising, just under load the engine misses and lumps along.

Can't find anyone near Canterbury apart from main dealer with the VAG system, bit hesitant to take it to them...

Any input appreciated, things to test / someone to take it to / other thoughts.

Please, really doing my little brain in

    bumpity bump

Perhaps I am not giving enough info.

Other things apparant are a fair bit of kangerooing when lifting off the throttle, and a horrible diesel engine type clatter on startup.

Can't apply any real load to the engine under ~2500RPM.

    Ideas please please please

it sounds like your ht leads are worn out to me, so when you put your engine under load it has a harder job to create a good spark. that is why it is misfireing. if i was you i would change your HT leads, cheap to do and easy,

Possibly coil pack or leads but also very common is a compression loss, usually on cylinder 2. This is becoming a major issue with the 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines.Get a compression test and fault code read done before throwing any more money in the air and seeing which way the wind blows it.

Ouch! Compression test sounds nasty.. Found an independent who could run a diagnostic. N80 sensor fault. Ordered one for £30.

I have some HT leads from another car, shall see if it would fit for a one by one test.

If these two give no moves, I will find a compression test. Appreciate the input!

EVAP canister valve failure, yes that can cause a misfire.

Any idea how much a compression test is (roughly)?

Popped it in, and no signs of any missing on a quick test run. Here's hoping! I did notice the canister had a hose connection on the bottom without a hose. Though I couldn't find anything to connect it to. I assume that's as it should be Mr Crasher?

    Thanks for the input!

The canister has a lower vent hole.
