The passenger side of our Golf fills up with water every time it rains! I sat in the car yesterday and watched as the rear passenger footwell filled up. There were no signs of water coming in any where. I even looked under the car in the pouring rain to see if I could see how it was getting in. It just came up through the carpet. The other morning the water was 2"(50mm) deep in the rear foot well and over half an inch (12mm) deep in the front. Has any one any suggestions?

Classic symptom of blocked drainage holes around the pollen filter. A quick search in the Golf or Passat sections will give details of the fix.

Thanks for that. Took the car back to the dealer today, it is booked in for the 10th June. The service manager suspects pollen filter drain holes. The air conditioning and multifunction display has also packed up. They hope to sort it all in one day, I hope so.

All sunroofs leak but have drainage holes in the front and back corners of the roof.

Open your door of the footwell thats leaking and squeze the rubber tube base and the water will come out cos it's been clogged with dirt.

Pour some hot water down it in the gap between in the open sunroof and is should flow through and clean the tube.

Do the same on the otherside to ensure it doesn't happen again.

The dealer fixed the Air con and fitted a new dash for the multi-function display but could not find a cause for the water leak. It seems the pollen filter problem was only on the Passat not the golf. We had a lot of rain a few weeks ago with no problems, however on Tuesday it filled up with water again. I checked the channel around the sunroof and it was clear. The car is going back to the dealers tomorrow in the hope they can sort it. The rain only comes in on the passenger side and is worse in the rear foot well.

It could still be the sunroof.

The drainage tubes run down the both front and middle A frames of your car and can get cloged easily.

The rain water can end up in the rear foot well as the front coming from both tubes.

The tubes come out of the bottom of the door inside. I'd make sure they're clear to eliminate an issue by giveing them squeze and running the water down them.

    Gook luck.

The dealer is talking utter twaddle! If it isnt the sunroof, the pollen filter drain holes will be blocked. Thats the usual suspect anyway!

The pollen filter is located behind the plastic panel infront of the bottom of the windscreen on the near (Passenger) side. Open the bonnet, there are around 4 screws starting near the bonnet hinge.

They checked the pollen filter last time we took it in and the drain holes were clear. Today they removed the headlining and found two of the sunroof drain tubes were blocked. The blew air through then and cleaned them out. I am hoping this will do the trick. We have had more trouble with this Golf in the few months we have had it than all the years we have owned Cavaliers and Astras! My wife, who actually owns the car, thinks it is brilliant and calls it Rocket Ron. It is certainly a good towcar for our small caravan.
