    I'd go ahead and change the matrix, as baltiboys2 says its not that bad, just time consuming and the cars are really solid under the dash. The matrix is cheap enough less than £50 from GSF and it does make a difference to the heat in the cabin, oh my motor had around 160k on it when I changed it, got 171k now.

    I changed my heater matrix a few years ago during a cold january day, it does look worse than it is, i just followed the haynes manual, it will be an easier job to do in the summer as the dash and all the associated plastic will be more bendy (more brittle in the cold), it took me about 10 hours to do but i do tend to work quite slow and methodical, taking pictures and writing down wiring connections etc.If you have a digital camera take a few snaps for your own reference, when you come to put it all together again you will have a type of picture guide!. Go for it, nothing worse than a frosty windscreen that you can't clear in the winter!!!

    im going to replace the matrix alright, have the matrix bypassed at the moment so it's not as pressing a concern as before, now to just set aside a day....
