Having recently replaced all the wheelbearings on my 1999 passat 1.8t,
I have had very quiet motoring until last week.
I noticed a slight hum at speed... a bit like a wheel bearing...
So I`ve gone and checked all the wheels for roughness when spun... all was well until I reached the nearside front... when the wheel was spun... it was making a fairly noticable noise from the gearbox area...
So I`m guessing my diff on one side is worn...
Car has nearly 120k miles now.
I would have hoped it would have lasted a fair while longer...
Can drives perfectly and has no problems other than the hum..
So the question is... can the diff be replaced or is it a new/recon gearbox?

Thanks in advance

Mark
