I have a 6 year old Bora 190tdi with only 39,000 miles from new.
On my current annual service my dealer is advising the cambelt/tensioner change is due to over 4 years old. "Failure could results in engine damage quote £350 for job"
I understand another criteria is 60,000 miles which probably refers to high mileage/short period cars such as sales reps.
Is my dealer trying it on?
    Is £350 the 'norm'
More important which is the critical factor, 60,000 miles or age??
    Any advice appreciated.

    wise man speaks the truth.
the critical factor,in any situation,is the one that occurs first.
take his word for it,get it done and save an expensive repair should it fail.
may i ask which tdi you have with 190 horse?
    regards,
    stewy.

    Can't argue with that!
Pick up is great, economical especially long motorway journeys can average 60mpg at 70-80mph. Would probably go for another if/when change albeit now a Jetta with 140bph!
But at c7000 miles per annum it will probably last me out!

i've read that the new jetta is dissapointing, not quite as nippy as the bora
and not as well put together. still,i've only seen that once in print and they could have been wrong.

th einterval is 40,000 miles or 4 yrs whicever comes first for the cambelt change.

the ******* wants £562 absolute ripoff since my local indie wants £305.

the original part came be had from ebay for about £85.

so it is a heck a lot in labour charges but certainly much cheper than a full engine rebuild in case the belt snaps.

    Hi
    Thanks for that.
Managed to source a reputable VW dealer who is doing it for £250 + £30 for the water pump which I understand may as well be done at the same time.
    Pays to shop around!
    Regards
    Bryan

    I have a question.

About 3-4 months ago i had a complete new engine installed into my Bora, im pressuming therefore that my cambelt should be ok for another 60K or 4 years?

    What do people think?

    Regards
