    Hi all

First post on this forum so hello

I just got a nice 2001 A6 Avant 3.0 Quattro SE as our family car and I want a second set of wheels so I can run winter tyres. The ones I have on the car are 17 inch so perfect for that job and a bit scuffed. I have the option of some new A6 Avant 2006 s line 18 inch wheels (5 spoke ones).

Do these have offsets that agree with my 2001 model? They have 5 nuts so look like they will be ok but just wandered what people thought as I know from previous cars that its not that simple sometimes !

    Thanks in advance

    Alex

PS have checked search function and no answer there.

They should fit without problems, however, i would chech the offset as if its too high it might catch onto the rear suspension legs. If you keep within 35-45 offset, you will be ok. Any lower will protrude out off the arches.

Hi...yeah you can get the winter tyres all the way up to 295 profile if you like. The 17's would have 235/45/17. Last year my 535d M sport Touring(DMS'd) I had 245/40/18's in the Conti winter sport contacts. Great tyres...and even in loads of new snow rear wheel drive and 500lb+ of torque I made it up and down the road to Tignes / Val D'isere with no drama at all. Quite funny going past lots of people struggling with chains and even X5's and the lile with totally the wrong rubber !

On the Audi with winter tyres it should be great.

The 18inch wheels i'll pop Goodyear F1 Aysemetrics on...great tyres also.

The guy selling the wheels reckons they are an offset of 8j ??...sounds wrong to me...I thought they were et42...????

8J is the width of the rim, not the offset.

Cheers for that. Went back to him and they are et43 and i'm picking them up on Thursday. Got brand new Michelin PS2's on as well so pretty chuffed.

Just for reference and so its in the archives i've got the definitive answer.

Yes they do fit. The offset on my original 17 inch wheels is et45 and the new ones are et43. 7.5j v's 8j. All no problem and confirmed by Audi UK.

I'd be interested in how you find the ride comfort with 18s fitted. I think it's bad enough with 17s. Might also look a bit gappy round the arches from previous experience of bigger wheels if you don't intend to lower. Bah, humbug. Sorry. I hope they work out for you.

Will let you know. Believe me, the ride is ultra compliant in comparison to the 535d M Sport Touring that came before this car!! I did away with the runflats and that made it much better though..

Not sure what you mean about gappy? There will be less gap as it will fill the arches more with the 18's?

The 4.2 V8 engined car came with 18's with the same body / suspension as standard the bloke from Audi told me so should look ok...hopefully.

I just had to have the wheels. They are brand new (well a few hundred miles) and have brand new Michelin Pilot Sports and only cost me £600 !! Genuine wheels...got them today and they look great. Just need to fit at the weekend. Will post before and after pics..
