I have a 2007 A6 2.7TDI, only one owner before me, now at 55,000 miles. Recently it's started suffering from judder on takeoff in first gear, not terrible, and not every time, but when it happens it defies all my efforts; no matter what I do to to vary engine speed and clutch movement, it's there.

I have the manufacturer's warranty (2 years, no mileage limit) so there's time to do something, if something can be done. I know this is not a new subject, but I haven't seen it mentioned with this particular model.

Does anyone have any experience of making a warranty claim with this problem? If it turns out to be the notorious DMF, is it fixable under warranty or does it count as a "wear-and-tear" part?

    Thanks for any information.

Sounds like DMF failure but if it is either, both should be replaced in any case.

Theres a modified clutch plate also for this issue which can be replaced under manufacturers warranty.Vehicle jitters when pulling away in warm condition without accelerating (stop and go operation in a congestion). This is caused by engine vibrations, which are transmitted into the vehicle via the clutch. This complaint doesn’t affect the 2.5l TDI the part number for the modified plates is 059 141 031 P.The dmf failure is un common on 2.7/3.0.

a8 tech: thanks for the reply (I seem to have got two different versions of it, but the essence is the same). I'm very glad to hear that DMF failure may not be the cause of the problem.

Can you please tell me what "tpi" stands for? Is it what some manufacturers call a technical service bulletin or TSB? The reason for the question is that I live in France and will have to negotiate with a French dealer, so I'd like to find the French equivalent and read it before I start the discussion.

One of your messages suggested sending you a PM if the dealer can't help. I'll be glad to do that if necessary, but the forum tells me that you are not set up to accept PMs.

Just in case it's something you weren't aware of.
