Hi , last week i brought an a4 tdi se which was lowered and although it looked nice it was unsuitable for the rough mountain road going to my house, so i have just changed all the springs to standard spec new ones from a local motor factors at a cost of £200.
Now im worried that i have fitted the wrong ones as the car seems too high, so i was hoping someone could give me the measurement from their a4 tdi se to see if it is wrong.
when i ordered the springs i was asked if it was a sport chassis as these are different, i said no and the box label said A4 11/00-, 1.8T, 1.9TDI, 2.0FSI.

From the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch the rear are 390mm, and the fronts are 385mm.
and the car has 17inch audi alloys fitted with 45mm profie tyres
if anyone has any suggestions to this post , i would be grateful for any comments on what the problem could be if there is any, or are they really this high.
    thanks

    Hi,

The SE springs sit 30mm higher than the sport ones,

I have a petrol and sport model with 16 inch alloys so cant help you on the ride height.

Could you post a photo up?

    Rick

Actually, that is a little low, they are normally about 400-mm all round.

No, that isn't right, how did you measure it? I did an earlier A4 for a forum member a few weeks back who had the same issue in that the car had been lowered and was horrid. I was very concerned about getting it spot on as I have had some very bad experiences with aftermarket springs. Because of this I fitted genuine springs and dampers and consequently it was spot on spec.

ive measured it from the centre of the alloy wheel to the top of the wheel arch, front 385mm, rear 390mm.

what is the correct way to measure them, and what are the correct values?
is there something ive missed when fitting these springs, as i can see how ive gone wrong.
    thanks

You have measured it the correct way, the 8D A4 sat at that height (and higher) but the 8E A4 sat lower even on standard suspension. You haven’t missed anything; you have been sold springs of the wrong weight group. The trouble is there are so many springs it can make your head hurt, for the 8E 4 and 6 cylinder non quattro there are about 24 different front and 24 different rear springs, 13 of which are for non sports suspension. If you need to know which springs your car should have, I would need you to look at your chassis data sticker and find the suspension type code which will should be 1BA (not 1BE) but more importantly the front and rear weight codes which will be 0JC all the way to 0JQ but will probably be around 0JE front and at the back is between 0YD and 0YQ but should be around 0YE. From that I can tell you which springs you should have VAG number wise and I should be able to cross reference to the springs you have as long as you know the make and still have the reference numbers.
