    Kevin,

I have a 2001 1.6 petrol and in my Service Record the dealer has hand written against "Toothed Belt relaced at km (miles)" ... 80,000 and I'm assuming this is miles.

If in doubt phone you local Audi dealership.

    Hope this helps.

Don't go above the 75,000k mile mark, my 1.8 states 80k in the book but a specialist advised me to change it around the 70-75k mark.
Always change the tensioner and if you can do the waterpump too as if this fails soon after (new tension from replacement belt) you are back to square one again.
A good specialist should be able to do this for you at a good price.

Last time i went to Audi in Gloucester they wanted to lighten my bank account of over £500 to do this job!!!!

    :O £500?!?!

I too am in need of my cambelt changed on a 2000 1.6 A3. 74,500 miles. I knew the recommended was 80,000 but want it done before then.

Any ideas on costs for the whole shebang from an independant? (Estimates of course... )

I had mine done by a specialist in Cheltenham last time, very good people and they always use genuine parts, they quoted me today to do it again (now done 148,000!!!) £330 all in, cambelt, tensioner, waterpump and new coolent/antifreeze fitted including vat.

    Not too bad me thinks.
For anyone interested it's Challenge VW/Audi Tel Cheltenham 01242 574040
