I have just used VAG-COM for the first time to diagnose fault on my golf mkiv gttdi 150.When clicking on the autoscan button, one fault appeared.ERROR -P0671(Cylinder 1 Glow Plug Circuit (Q10) Electrical Fault)
I then clicked on the "clear codes" button. Then onrestarting the car several times , the error message(emissions workshop!) and engine warning light did not reappear This error has been on for the passed 3 days continually, so why does it not reappear if the glow plug is defective? Can anybody shed some light on the above ?

I can only guess that if it hasn't re-appeared then the problem doesn't exist. This happened on my old Vauxhall Vectra, where after hoovering out the interior I ended up with the airbag light on for absolutely no reason. A reset with Opel-Tech was required, and that's it, the fault never re-occurred. Keep an eye on things though, if the problem is really there then it will re-appear.

    Hi Med,

Some fault codes that are saved are due to intermittent faults. If could be something as simple as a loose connection that hasn't come loose enough to cause the fault or it could just have been a set of circumstances which led the car to log a fault.
Keep an eye on it and do some regular scans to check the code doesn't reappear, or any others appear. Give it a couple of weeks of checking every other day and if it doesn't reappear then don't worry about it!

My '03 Golf TDI (mkiv) just recently through a similar code -- p0673 (cylinder 3). What was the outcome of your car's situation?

    Hi Mark,
The fault was found to be a faulty glowplug on number 1 cylinder.I found out this by checking its resistance, and comparing it to the other three. It was found to have a high resistance.I fitted a new one , cleared the error and have not had any further problems.Hope this is helpful ?
    Cheers ,
    MED.

    Hey MED!

Thanks for the response and help. I tried re-seating the electrical harness on each glow plug ... and that seemed to work for now. However, I will test the resistance as soon as I buy a multimeter . I would still like to know if there is a potential problem brewing.

My (05 2.0 sdi) Golf has had the same fault code come up (p0673) 3 times in succession now. It started about a week after I had it serviced. Don't know if the 2 things are related. Each time it has been reset but it comes back on within a week or so. Apparently it means either a faulty glow plug, bad wiring, or the ecu. I'm gonna swap the position of no.3 glow plug with another one to see if I get a different code. At least that way I will know if it's the glow plug or not.
If anyone else has any other suggestions about what else to try, I'd really appreciate it.

My resolution was to change out the wiring harness. That cured the problem, but my trusted tech who performed the repair informed me that two of my glow plugs were not Bosch, and that any slight voltage discrepancy that may result from mixing the plug manufacturers "may" cause another error code.

Well, that was about 4 months ago and I have had NO error codes since changing the harness.

    Good luck with yours.
