you would certainly have to fit the original ecu and wiring from the 1.8gti.
along,i suspect, with suspension and brakes, wheels and exhaust system. as regards the dash panel,iv'e no idea but would think it would need changing, and l'm only guessing!!
    there's a start anyway.
someone more qualified will soon give you a better idea, but whatever is
envolved you will also need to change the insurance( a big jump depending on age ).
easier i would suspect, to change the car.
    regards,
    stewy.

It is really easy. What you do is sell the 1.4 and buy a GTI. Swapping a 1.4 for a 1.8T is complete madness, it will cost you far more than buying the real thing and no matter how well you do it, the car will never be worth what a proper GTI is and your insurance company will make all sorts of silly request such as brake upgrade in excess of what the original had. I have a saying, “never build a car you can buy”.

    I agree!

Its complete madness to build a car you can buy. Just think of the aggro you'll have trying to insure it, and the trouble you'd have trying to sell it in the future!

Buy a 1.8T - much less hassle and expense.
