Hi, don't know if anyone has any thoughts about a noise that I've just noticed. My Golf has 1400 miles on it and I noticed a rattling noise at very low speed in an indoor car park today. It sounds a bit like there's a tin can rattling along underneath the car. It doesn't seem to make the noise at road speeds. I have noticed it a couple of times as I come to a stop and pull away at roundabouts. I've had a look underneath but nothing is loose or appears to be out of place. I'm going to get it to the dealers at some point next week. Other than this noise the car has been brilliant. Thanks for reading this.

i don't know what your exhaust would be like, but on earlier ones thier was an exhaust
bracket just to the passenger side of the tunnel that cracked and rattled. easy to weld,
although yours will be under warranty so shouldn't cost you at all.
    regards,
    stewy.

Hi, You might want to check the heat shield at the back of the engine. Looking from the engine bay, look at the back of the engine, way down below the bulkhead, and you can just see an aluminium plate. Mine was vibrating against the steering column at low revs, making a noise just as you describe. Check to see if it is rubbing against anything, and bend it out of the way. Hope this helps.

I just checked with the service dept. at main dealer. Technician thought it was probably a stone caught behind a brake disc. Sounds reasonable as I have stones on my drive! Also the noise is a bit more 'ringy' as in bell. We'll see how it goes for now. Thanks for the replies.

You may want to check the splash guards fitted to the front disc brakes. I have been trying to find the source of this rattling for a while, and just by chance, I found these guards vibrate and rattle at low revs. Try pushing the guards back away from the disc and see if the noise goes away, or reduces. I did this and the rattling did get less. I need to have a proper look at this and come up with a permanent fix. Hope this helps.
