Audi A6 passenger footwell full of water???

As a new owner of a resale A6, very unhappy to find footwell full of rain water. Seems speaking with local dealers and garages, that this is a historical problem with Audi/VW.

Battery compartment under main wipers has an outlet with a rubber/plastic pipe where debris can collect and block. Simple to fix but not to be seen in any literature and or websites.

Result is a huge amount of water fills your passenger side from behind the glove compartment.

Please contact me if this has happened to you, Audi refuse to accept this is a problem or even warn people about it potentially happening to them.

Lets see if the mighty Watchdog can help?

    Many thanks

Enter Plenum Chamber in the search window on here and there are miles of treads to read and on the Passat area of the forum. Some main dealers accept this and fix the problem and there have even been some recalls. Other deny, as do Audi that there is a problem. Under the passenger floor in a tough plastic box in which the CCM Convience Control Module lives and it may already be dead and corroded cable harness and connectors. This is expensive. You will also find the rear foot well is wet under if not on top of the carpets as there is a recess in the floor pan which carries the heater air duct to the rear of the seat. The last Passat I did a couple of weeks ago took 3 8 hrs sessions to dry the carpets and underfelt out. There are two bungs that can become blocked, one under the barake servo and one under the battery. There is also an issue with water seapage through the Pollen filter housing but this seems to mostly be limited to Passat's. Regards Peter

you will find that as an Audi owner, you end up checking the Plenum chamber for water almost as often as the oil, especially at this time of year if you park near trees.

It's not that it clogs that often, just that it can be so expensive when it does !

As above, search for the term "water footwell" and go nuts.

It's not a new thing, and it's VERY common.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

I had the exact same problem. Fortunately for me, I noticed it after the first few drips (there was a piece of paper in the footwell which showed the water). The forums found me the weirdlittlebiscuitguide, which is for a Passat, but is exactly the same procedure for an A6.

It took me about 30 minutes, including removing as much of the gunge as I could. The only tools you'll need are a 10mm spanner, 13mm socket, a few pokey things and a vacuum cleaner to suck up the leaf gunge. Oh, and the radio code for when you reconnect the battery!

My A6 was storing about 4 litres of water behind there! I'm suprised I couldn't hear it sloshing as I went 'round corners.

I'm not suprised that Audi aren't interested. The cars are all out of warranty now, so why should they be bothered? and if they get to sell new CCMs at £500 a go, plus fitting, they'll be laughing all the way to the bank!
