for about a week now my tailgate is constantly open. the catch does not engage and there is no noise from the locking motor, i have to keep it closed using a bungee cord. i took it to a garage and they said its either the lock or motor or both. has anyone experienced this before and with a bit of mechanical knowledge is it an easy enough job to do myself???

2005 140TDi Touran: my boot won't open and I wondered if there is any way of finding out which part to order, lock or motor? Don't want to order one and replace it to find out it's the other I need.

I can open it manually from the inside via the little access hole where the Emergency Hazard triangle is kept. You need long fingers to get at the lever.

    cheers

I think it's time to refresh this issue. Mine has lock is stuck open and will not catch when the boot is closed.

The Boot cover has been prised loose and now sits in my lounge and I can see some of the mechanism. I believe all i needed to do to access the lock was to undo the 2 over sized hex bolts. and boy are they tight, I best get a bit that fits properly be fore i go any further.

    1. the lock doesnt catch
    2. there is no sevo sound when using the boot handle.

    HELP PLEASE

Ive got the same issue. replaced the lock for £30 from VW. What i did notice is that the latch holds on the new part where as the old lock could be easily pulled back open, hence the tailgate not staying shut. now when i press the handle, nothing happens although the lock seems to fire randomly whilst the car is unlocked, without actually releasing the tailgate fully. by the way the bit you require is a 8mm 12 spline bit
