When CC is on, you can use the accelerator as you like to speed up, however, your speed will settle back to your set CC speed - eg - CC set to 72, you need to speed up to 80 - use the pedal, lift off and the speed will settle back to 72.
Pressing the clutch, brake, pushing the CC stalk back or forcing the car out of gear (don't ask) will turn off CC.
The CC stalk will speed the car up, but it will increase cruising speed - if it's at 60 and you want to speed up and cruis at 70, push and hold the stalk up until you get to 70 or notch it up twice to increase it by 10mph.
Hope that helps.
