Strange noise from dashboard

Hi, I'm new to the group and have recently bought a 2003 225 TT.

I have noticed a strange noise coming from the dashboard area. The noise is like a fan running/rattling but it is not the AC fan as it still seems to be there when the AC is turned off and is not effected by the AC fan speed. The noise is not effected by engine/car speed and sounds like it is internal.

Anyone any ideas/suggestions ?

A recent service at the nearest Audi garage has highlighted the air conditioning sensor fan as the culprit of the noise. It apparantly draws air in from the cabin to sense the temperature. This is what is rattling on my car.

Anyone got any experience of changing one of these ?

The dealer price for the job is £150.

Hi, I had a similar problem on a non Audi. I was able to get to the fan and apply a little WD40 to the fan bearings. The rattle stopped and a couple of years later when I sold the car it was still fine. Worth a try and cheaper than £150!

Hi, the fan is on the back of the air con unit,has 2 small torx screws to remove,
