    Hi Gixxermonkey,

bear with me - my first post to the forum! I have to say that in 9 months, I haven't had a single issue with '07 Passat 2.0 TDI 170 DSG Highline - absolutely love it.

For reference, my last car was an '04 Merc E220 CDI, changed after 18 months due to high mileage (started to feel a little tired at 80k miles). Test drove a lot of cars before changing, and the best bang for buck came from the Passat B6. I got a brand new car, for less than it would have cost to move up 1 year staying with the Mercs.

For good measure (and my own peace of mind), I test drove a '06 Merc E280 CDI just last week - let's just say that I felt no reason to change "up" to the Merc after the test drive. At this stage, the only real difference I can see between the B6 Passat and an E class is the rear wheel drive (I miss it!) and the Merc's badge, as well as higher running and servicing costs. Good luck whatever you choose!

    Cheers,
    Eddie.
