hi all, i have read many horror stories about the multitronic gearbox needing the clutch plates changing and a few other problems with them.
i have the tiptronic gearbox on my 1999 a6 2.5tdi is it the same gearbox ? do these suffer from the same problems ?

As far as I am aware the multitronic came out in 2001 on 2 wheel drive cars only, so yours is the tptronic. Lucky you! Albeit I have had no problems so far.

The Tiptronic is a classic type auto box while the Multitronic is a CVT. From comments on here the Tip is more reliable provided that it has had regular gearbox oil and filter changes. If not they can also give trouble.
