My customer has a problem we can't find!

Car will not start sometimes. Powersteering warning light comes on and she looses powersteering.

I have driven 130 miles (yes 130m!) in the car no problem. Mechanic has driven 15 miles of short journeys no problem!

Fault codes.... according to our local diagnostic point none!

So we have pulled all electrical connections apart to ensure dry and clean.

Starting problem appears OK, but phone call to say PAS light back on. Turn car off turn back on, all is OK.

I sell mainly German and Japanese to reduce the problems, hence this is driving me (and more importantly my customer) nuts!

    HEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPP.

    Update

The car is a 51 plate (newer shape) 1.4 16v.

The customer has had a re-accurence of the no start problem and the PAS problem. Apparently the starting problem occures when on a hill. Logic says fuel draining back. Anybody else had the problem?

Ok I am getting somewhere now.

I have had the PAS light come on whilst driving it. The only change is that the low speed PAS level does not come into play ie at parking speed the steering is heavy. Now I guess this means a sensor fault somewhere.

So tomorrow morning the car is booked in for a diagnostic check ( at our preferred independant). Fingers crossed we can nail this.

Ahh the fault code shows the position sensor at the base of the steering column as faulty. So time to order an exchange unit from VW.

No faults shown on the starting front though.

Apparently the starting fault occurs when the car is parked on an incline.... any ideas?

For the starting problem I would definitely do a thorough check on the fuel pump.
