Let me have your A6 recommendations

I'm seriously looking at upgrading from my old A4 to an A6, ideally Avant. Is there a particular version you would recommend to me, or one that you would avoid.

My wish list is:

Avant, but would go with saloon

leather interior, really want leather

ideally manual

petrol or diesel

2ltr (ish) not interested in Quattro

year 2001 upwards

high mileage (130k max) if the service history is in place

As many gadgets as possible

6-7k is the budget

Are my expectations reasonable?

They are. I just ought an 02 Reg A6 Avant TDi SE 130, manual, black, leather, 2 owners, FSH and immaculate nick, with 112K miles for £6350. Bought locally, private sale.
It seems to averaging 45mpg so far, although only owned 2 or 3 weeks, and no long journeys, but only going by the trip computer. I was surprised how much go it has for 130bhp and a heavy car. Bounces round a bit on Norfolk lanes. but a fantastic cruiser. Really pleased wth it.

Good luck - worth watching all the online sites, autotrader, ebay, pistonheads, gumtree etc to get an idea of price

A buddy of mine bought a 1.9TDi sport avant with full sports black leather just before Christmas, beautiful car, and went really well aswell (infact far too similar to my 2.5TDi for my liking ). He paid over the odd's through a dealer but up to £7k should buy you a very tidy example, 2001/2 vintage.

Prices seem to vary quite a bit on autotrader but there are always plenty on there, purchase and enjoy !

I just bought a 2001 A6 Avant 2.5 TDI SE with leather, 92k on the clock, 1 owner from new for £6900 from a dealer.

I thought that was a good price for the car.

not leather - but why do you need leather ? its freezing in the winter and sticky on the summer. you also slide all over the place !! we have just bought a new shape A6 and we were looking for ages as we didnt want leather.
looking for around £5500, so well under your budget.
