Audi A3 petrol sounds like a diesel

Hi can any one give me a bit of advice? have an Audi A3 fsi sportback 1.6 petrol (38k mile) and lately when you start the engine it makes a noise like a diesel for about 30 seconds then it stops. My car is currently at a dealership as they are trying to find out the problem. (it has been there a week so far) also the mile per gallon goes mad when it is started up rising fast and dropping like a stone for the 1st few hundred yards then it settles out. I though this might be the same problem as i had on my golf gti the lamda probe but they don't seem to think so. does any one have an ideas, am getting sick now have been told it might be also be the oil pump? anyone got any ideas??? thanks

I have same problem? did you get to resolve it in the end?
