window stopped working a few weeks ago, the emergency lights flashed when i tried to open or close window, but by opening the door a few inches the glass moved perfectly. it might be ok for a few days then.
I suspected the electrical conns. going to the door but i have done no checks yet. Today it has stopped working and i am unable to get it to move with the door in various positions, the emergency flashers light when the switch is put to the open or close positions,--luckily the window is stuck closed
any help/ideas would be appreciated -thanks

ps: i hope i am posting to correct forum!

Sounds like a loose connection at the door hinge area. Unplug the door then loosen the rubber grommet where it emerges from the 'A' pillar, and inspect the wiring there.

    thanks for reply,
have unscrewed connection to pillar last weekend- all conns appeared ok , no damage obvious.
will do further checks this weekend, remove door card and check with meter for shorts etc
window still not working, all emergency lights flash with windows switch!

thanks funky ferret and 3dogs for help.
got it sorted -had to do major disassembly-remove door card and speaker etc.--firstly disconnect / unscrew main connection from pillar for safety.
broken thick brown and thin green wires- severed at door end of gaiter.
split grab handle and lifted switch asm. to expose 3x10 mm screws-removed these and lifted complete panel up and out-
    removed a few electrical conns.
gaiter at door end was difficult to remove -held in by three barbed clips.
after wire repairs and reassembley all worked ok.
