    Hi

I'm new to this forum but not new to VW's.

My wife's '91 MK3 Golf 1.8 CL's ABS light has started to stay on all the time.

It would come on intermittently during a journey back in the summer and then suddenly the problem became permanent. I know it's probably just a sensor but does this model have any common well known faults in this area? I don't want to have to take the whole system apart if it can be helped and I don't want to pay for expensive diagnostics!

    Look Forward to your replies

    regards

It may be a faulty speed sensor or a coroded ring or that one of the abs sensors on the front wheels might not be plugged all the way into its socket. Suggest getting a scan and post the fault code on the forum also see if the fault is cleared(reset) is still commes on .

    Thanks for your reply

I should have also mentioned that although it used to come on during driving, it now always comes on when the engine starts and then stays on. I can hear the click from the relay.

Can I try resetting the system by disconnecting the abs ecu for a few hours ?

    regards

I dont think that disconecting the ABS ecu will clear the code but it might need codding afterwards so DONT DO IT !! Get a garage to do a diagnostic and see where the fault is ! Good luck .

Hi davetd sorry to state the obvious have you jacked the car up and looked at the brake system, pads, sensors and looms etc? Had a problem on a friends car and it was just a plug on a sensor not connected properly.
