    Hi,

You can get all the relevant info from

    http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/review...el=1177&page=7

Full service history would be good with any car

go for a long test drive

    check all the electrical switches

and general wear and condition of the car inside and outside.

    Hi,

Are you looking for one of the 1.9TDI or the 2.0TDI..

The 1.9TDi is not bad, the 2.0TDI is better... but theres nothing wrong with a 1.9TDI..

If budget is ok, try to keep away from the 1.6FSI..

    Rick

Cruise control is a waste of money IMHO. I had it on my previous Passat, and in 10 years I used it maybe half a dozen times. Roads in the UK are just too busy most of the time.

    Keith,

I suppose that all depends on where you live and at what time of day you drive and on what roads!

I don't have Cruise on my car, but I'm about to Retro-fit it!
I had a courtesy car with cruise control for a week and my god, it made my life so much easier. Once I had got away from the rush hour traffic at Aberdeen and had started down the A92 it made cruising so much easier!!
And not to mention stopping me going above 40 on the mile long road works as you come out of Aberdeen!

It's all a personal preference I suppose, but have to say that the VW/Audi Cruise is pretty good, easy to use and didn't seem to use much more fuel than me driving in the time that I used it!!

    Cheers

True, most of my driving is motorway M3/M4/M5/M6/M25/M1/M11 during the day. I tend to drive mainly at 70-80mph and not hog the middle lane so am always overtaking lorries, cruise control is not so good for that.

Now if cruise control could also steer I'd definitely use it!

Yeah, it's not so great when your constantly overtaking lorries!!

Ah, but would you really trust your car to steer you at 80mph??

Once they can figure out how to stop simple things breaking then I might think about letting them steer me to my doom at some ridiculous speed

thanks again for the replies... well i will be using cruise control at night on motorway when no one is on it as i work nights, and now iv started to just sit behind a lorry at 60mph till i arrive at work, so i think cruise control would be superb for that???

also iv heard cruise control helps on mpg as the car knows how much fuel it needs to do a certain speed as appose to the driver pressing the gas/pedal to get the speed needed.....

where shall i look for a good golf tdi se for £8K MAX i want a mk5.

and how much do volkswaken charge for full service on a golf? or should i just go to a vw approved garage or a vw specialist garage (WHEN I GET A GOLF THAT IS) )

You sound like the perfect candidate for cruise control me thinks

It all depends on the type of roads you drive on, if they are quite hilly then cruise control can be quite thirsty as the car waits until the speed drops below a certain speed then accelerates quite hard to bring it back up then waits again, where as you would find a happy medium!
If the roads are flat then the cruise should be better at keeping a constant amount of fuel going in to keep the speed, hence get slightly better consumption!!

Real world you'll probably find the cruise uses a bit more fuel, but we're talking maybe 1 or mpg, so what, 15 miles per tank!! And that's if you used the cruise for every bit of driving so your talking about 7-10 miles max I would say!!

    hope that helps
