    Hi there,

Been having a little trouble with the cooling system and temp gauge on dash.

The temp gauge on the dash seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes reads 0 then can go up to 100, seems intermitant, I have bought a new sensor 3 pin one, noticed one of wires broken, going to fit sensor and fix wire today.

The other issue is that motorway driving the temp reads 50, around town reads between 50 and 100 is this normal?

The rad fan kicks in ok.

The other big issue is that i fixed a leak where the temp sensors attach to block, then one of the sensors started to leak (seal was knackered and replaced) then it has sprung another leak at the back of the engine, i'm a bit concerned whether this is suggesting something more serious is occuring, like the cooling system overpressuring, has anyone got any ideas/

    Thanks

    M.

    Hi M,

I have the same problem with regards to temperature going between 0 and 100 so will check the sensors.

Also I have leaking coolant and did not know where it was coming from but will check around the sensors.

I will keeo an eye on your thread and see if anyone can help.

    Cheers

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Sorted the water leak, just needed a new seal on sensor, also the water flanges were leaking too, again renewed the seals and a bit of instant gasket did the trick, unfortunately the car went off to the scrap yard about 3 months ago.....

Shame but was getting too many faults and was a little unreliable.

    Hi Murray,

Shame about your car, beginning to know how you feel but will try and keep it on the road for a bit longer.

I will check the sensor and the water flanges.

    Cheers

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Yeah, but it served it purpose, bought it for £250 when my rover coupe after 51k miles of motoring decided to blow its head gasket, the 80 lasted a yr and 11k miles so owed me nothing, was a great car to drive, but felt like i was chasing problems, every week something else would go and the last thing to give up was a rear caliper and i was given a newer car so it went.

I am pretty sure the water system was over pressuring, i was going to run it with out the thermo stat and see if that would sort the temp problems.

    Good luck with yours

    Murray.

    Hi Murray,

I am like you, will try a couple of things but if it gets too much I will look for another car. Had mine a few years, cost £900 (bit dear) but done 30,000 miles in it and so far only replaced wear and tear items, sadly now starting to leak coolant. Sunroof never worked but will try and sort it.

Good luck with your new car.

    Nick
