    Hi,
I am new to this forum - looks very interesting...

I have a 1988 Audi 90 quattro (10V) which I have owned for more than 9 years and is still an excellent vehicle (not without a few technical challenges along the way though)

My question relates to parts availability. Looking to the future with the vehicle, my front exhaust section is deteriorating but Audi list the part as 'unavailable' VAG 893 253 209 AP. Timax list 893 253 209 E but I'm not sure what the difference between the 'AP' and the 'E' within the part numbers mean.

    An ideas ?

    Regards

It seems that the Timax number you quote is not a Timax part as they don't list or make one (it would start with 2 letters and 5-6 numbers). Did you have any luck finding one as i'm looking for a front silencer too? As cheap as possible, of course!!

    Hi jp_paul,
There are two sets of numbers on the Timax catalogue, http://194.207.37.7/webcattimax/webf...mMainMenu.aspx. One is the 893 253 209 E (presumably the VAG equivalent ?) and their own number AU146W. If the first number is the VAG equivalent it means that it is different from my car and the AU146W would be different too.

No luck finding a part yet. I have some ideas though - Powerflow exhausts http://www.powerflowexhausts.net/ will make one in stainless steel which may be slightly expensive but at least the car could stay on the road .

My car does not have a catalyst (too old,), so maybe a local garage could make a something using the flanges of the existing box and weld in a pipe ?

If I manage to locate any stock I'll let you know.

    Regards,

    Bob

I concur! I've been told that the exhaust for the 90 2WD 2.2 KV engine is different from a Quattro and to watch out that they have the right one before ripping anything off.

I too was thinking of stainless but a local guy quoted be ~£150, which is the same as an off the shelf job replacement so its 6 of one and half a dozen of t'other. Still too much for me to pay really.

I have a friend in Macclesfield, Cheshire called Tube Torque who makes SS exhausts. I was gonna ask him to knock me up pipe only (dont need the silencer really, i hope) if nothing else turns up. Maybe we could club together and hope for a discount for 2 identical pieces? I'm sure he'd sort us out for a resonable fee. What d'ya reckon?

Hi jp, thanks for the kind offer to negotiate for two pipes but I think I'll hold off for the moment to see if another solution can be found.

I like your idea about the straight through pipe (no silencer).

Best of luck in sorting your exhaust out.

    Regards,
    Bob

Sound as a pound Bob. I too am holding off for the meantime as i've managed to plug the hole and crack with exhaust assembly paste. I have to keep topping it up every few weeks but i'm broke so it'll do for now. Keep me informed if you find something cheap!! I'm hoping it'll last till march when its MOT time.

    Hi jp,
Only other idea that may help at the moment would be a secondhand part ?

I bought an auxiliary radiator via ebay a few months ago and the seller specialised in Audis. A link to his ebay shop is http://cgi3.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....serid=audibits

Not sure how you would contact him for parts not listed on ebay (the exhaust) but there is a chance that he may have parts.

    Maybe worth a try...

    Good luck.

    Regards,
    Bob

I've actually brought stuff off him in the past, but i believe he hasn't got a 90 Quattro KV in atm. Might drop him a line though just to make sure. Thanks for the heads up.
