This post inspired me to have a ring round the local ******** and I have found out hte following...

While having the Cambelt changed, make sure on quotations that you are quoted for genuine VW parts. Also, you ensure that the quotation includes VAT, labour and parts for fitting a replacment Toothed Belt Camshaft and Timing Belt Kit.

Also, it is reccomended that you have a water pump fitted at the same time because they need to take the cambelt off to fit it...

Original price for this work was £541.56 and I have now managed to get the cost down the £320 (inc. VAT, Parts, Labour and Water Pump) after going through 5 ******** in my local area...

I am still waiting for three more to call me back
Let me know how lucky you get...

Cheers domestos for the advice. I think I can postpond this cam belt expense for couple of months because I dont do much of travelling.

At the moment I am considering extended warranty thing. I received call from the website company where I got the online quote. They offered me MOT warranty as well with their platanium cover. That warranty will cover all MOT repair work for three years.

Looks too good to be true. £514 for three years (VW refused to sell extended warranty)?

I am still waiting your expert opinion Crasher, James & stuart on this particular warranty!!

Well I'm certainly no expert; indeed I'm really interested in others' views on this because my own warranty only has three thousand miles to go and I'm thinking along the same lines as you.

I'd feel safest with the VW warranty, and I've still got a few weeks in which I can take it out, but I suspect it'll be more like £500 for one year!

However, the area is clearly a potential minefield, so my only advice is that the more homework you do on the subject the better.

I'd be looking at the smallprint - what's the mileage limit, what's not covered and what's the most it'll pay out.

Incidentally, I'd consider going to a VW specialist for the cambelt - Call GSF to see if they know of a local VW specialist (unless you already know of one that is).

Don;t want another shock around the corner... VW do this one and it covers what you would expect - subject to terms and conditions of course. Can't see any costs though, but I suspect that is different for every car and condition/age etc...

    Hello,

Does anyone know if Audi does a warranty like VW as there all in the VAG group?

I've had a quote on a VW extended warranty on my 2.0tdi Passat - In the region of £1300 and that varies between models, engines, specs, etc (My GF's brother is the guy that sold me my car and he got me the costs).

Not sure if that's ever going to be worth it TBH and I'd consider an all covering third party one.
