Just joined the forum, I have a 2.5TDI A4 Cab and the drivers side window has a rattle when driving over anything not perfectly flat. How can I fix it?

    Hi Mate

The window moves up and down perfectly and it nips up to the hood fine. It's when the hood is down it rattles like hell and must need adjusting or new rubbers? Any ideas? Is there an easy fix?

well theres no rubbers to change really sounds to me that the window need to be tightend from inside the door its a little tricky depends how handy you are theres nothing that should wear out to do it though you need star ends screwdriver bits and you have tighten them from inside of the door you cant see the nuts so use a small mirror to see what your doing what ever you do dont undoor the window it hard to reset itthe panel comes off really easy so nothing to worry about there

Thanks for your help, I think I'll need a manual as I haven't taken the door panel off before etc and don't want to damage it. Is it worth getting a CD version of the manual from Ebay to help?

Before you start dismantling there was a few who had this problem like me. I'm not sure about the cab, but on the A4 it was dry seals around the door. Also the door is made of two parts, the upper window section is fitted to the actual door and this can be out. I fixed mine, this sounds a bit severe, but I put a knee near the top of the door (padded to avoid dents) and pulled on the upper frame whilst the window is down. I then applied some good quality rubber care to all the door seals but primarily the top one.

This may be worth looking into as I was convinced mine was physically the window rattling due to the noise, but in fact the dry rubber. Try dropping your window by a few mil (ie a quick flick on the window switch) and see if it goes then, if so the above may fix.

Like I said, I;m not sure how the window fit in the cab due to the lack of door frame so try the lubricant.

Marco - cab doors don't have frames for the windows - so the knee bending trick would likely result in nothing more than a test of glass deflection limits prior to shattering ;-)

There are a few adjustments on the window assembly of the cab - though likely something loose at this point, as was suggested previously.

CD manual well worth having, will likley recoup the cost on first use and always handy for future. Not sure how much they tend to cost?

Where are you based Jol ?

Thanks for your help chaps. I have already tried the silicone spray for the window rubbers but hasn't made much difference (apart from smear marks all over the glass!).
I live in Gateshead otherwise I would have happily popped to see you windowman! Not sure where you are based Spr0cket?
I will get the workshop manual from Ebay, might get it ordered today.
