been to vw today, they say the green top plug goes from 2001 onwards, on the vag parts site it says 99 on, so ive ordered the wrong one, so i guess i'll have to get the other one, but after thinking i'd check to see what type of plug (blue or green top) i cant flippin find it anyway??!! any help or pics to show where it is so i can check mine.

thanks guys, also, do i have to go to a vw place to get codes wiped off that are now sorted by adding parts to remedy

Changed the same sensor on my Passat, one of numerous faults over the last couple of years, had to get sensor from VW, don't think it cost more than £20. All was ok with the temperature side of things after that. Don't forget to get a small bottle of VW antifreeze mix, you'll loose some coolant when changing the sensor.

Soory, if you stand looking at the engine, it's situated at the back of the engine, slightly to the left and down a bit.

my passat is a 2001 tdi 130 tiptronic, temp was always at 90 now at 80,my mechanic changed the switch but still 80. as you look at the car from the front, the switch is on the right hand side half way down ( bugger to get to !)mine should have had a green 4 pin switch but had a black 2 pin and no wires for 4 pin ! VW can't explain !the extra 2 wires go to the ECU ?
Suspect they changed over from 2 to 4 pin in 2000/2001. hope this helps !

i think im gonna just try and match them up when i get it, think i have seen it but was looking for a green top plug as per the one i had just bought, gonna have a look in a min, the plug i saw had the clip that holds it in but i dismissed it, the schematic diagram at vw showed it down near the oil filter but was an odd drawing to look at.

    thanks again guys
