Hello all.
Got lots of info of this site so thanks for that. This is my first post so a bit new to me.Have got two passats one 2000 and one 1998 .The 1998 has no problems and drives fine, but have had problem with 2000 model for ages.
drives fine but when you go over 65 in fourth or fifth gear a sudden power loss comes over the car.I have changed the wastegate control valve with
no effect. vag-com gives me ;
17958 - Charge Pressure: Control Deviation
P1550 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
The car goes into limp mode and will not regain power until switched off and on again.I disconnected the pipe from the wastegate on the turbo coming from the wastgate control valve,I connected a short piece of vacume pipe to
the wastegate on the turbo and sucked, while having my hand on the actuater arm.no matter how hard i sucked and held up the vacume to the wastegate it did not move a millimetre.I know it has to be the wastegate actuater because i removed the clip at end of the rod coming from the
actuater, the little arm on the side of the turbo that is suposed to move is very free , it should have no problem moving it if the wastegate actuater was
working fine.I feel this is my problem but have not replaced the wastegate
actuater, i also checked the wastegate on the 1998 model and was able
to easly move the actuater when i applied a vacume through the piece of
pipe i used on the 2000 model, so i am fairly sure it is the reason i am
having my power loss problem...
can anyone guide me to where i can buy a new wastegate unit. I do not
want to go to vw garage as i already have a morgage and do not want another one, when the try sell me a complete turbo.
I will ring them, but only to see if it comes as a seperate item.
If and when i get to change unit and test the car i will get back and post
if it has fixed my problem.
THANKS to all the post that gave me guidance on this this site.
It sounds as i have my problem already fixed, but i am quietly confident.
